The Role We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for our team in São Paulo. You will work on the platform supporting FX operations across multiple jurisdictions, serving real customers with real money. You will report to the Backend Tech Lead and collaborate daily with backend, frontend, and QA teams—including colleagues across our international offices. Your Responsibilities • Design and develop backend features with a focus on performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability • Own systems end-to-end—from data modeling and API contracts to production behavior under real traffic • Write Python and Rust code that correctly, defensively, and scalably implements financial logic • Work closely with QA from the design phase, anticipating edge cases and failure modes before writing the first line of code • Optimize database queries, message queues, and asynchronous workflows for production-scale throughput • Contribute deeply to code reviews: challenge architectural decisions, resist shortcuts, and elevate the overall codebase quality • Document decisions and trade-offs so the team does not need to rediscover them six months later Requirements • 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with a track record of production systems under real user load • Proficiency in Python; experience with Rust or strong motivation to ramp up quickly • Strong command of PostgreSQL or similar relational databases, including indexing strategies and query optimization under load • Experience with distributed task processing and event streaming (e.g., Celery, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar) • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), Docker, and CI/CD pipelines • Effective daily use of AI tools—applied with discernment to guide, not be guided by, them.
