Residents of Vila Maria Baixa and Parque Novo Mundo, led by municipal councilors from the region, engaged in numerous negotiations with the Municipal Health Department to build a hospital addressing regional healthcare demand. The hospital—nicknamed “Vila Maria”—was subsequently constructed, with expectations of high-resolution and high-performance healthcare delivery. The hospital was named after influential regional politician Councilor José Storopolli, whose family donated the land for its construction. However, from its inauguration in 1992 until July 1994, its surgical center remained inactive, along with its surgery and orthopedics ward and Intensive Care Unit.
