**About Hospital São Paulo**
Inaugurated in 1940 to support clinical teaching for students of Escola Paulista de Medicina, HSP became the country’s largest federal teaching hospital. Its governance is carried out by a council comprising representatives from several entities — Unifesp, Escola Paulista de Medicina, Escola Paulista de Enfermagem, and SPDM.
Over 82 years of operation, HSP has become one of the top training centers for physicians, nurses, and other health professionals in Brazil — holding this position for over 50 years. As Unifesp’s university hospital, it hosts 92 medical and multiprofessional residency programs, attended by 1\.454 residents.
An outstanding teaching hospital hosting some of Brazil’s best postgraduate programs, several of which are ranked by CAPES and other funding agencies as the nation’s finest. Its expansion followed advances in medicine and other health fields, meeting the growing demand for new services among patients.
Alongside intensive clinical activity, HSP also stands out for its extensive scientific output and teaching excellence, positioning it as a nationally and internationally recognized institution of excellence.
The institution covers all medical specialties, especially those involving highly complex procedures. Its significance to state and municipal health authorities makes it responsible, within Greater São Paulo, for serving a population exceeding 5 million inhabitants, in addition to receiving patients from other Brazilian states.
Hospital São Paulo’s mission is to provide high-quality health care to the population, aiming at their well-being, while offering optimal conditions for teaching and research.
