Join our purpose! **Responsibilities and Duties** The nursing intern works under direct supervision, assisting in all stages of the perioperative process: ### **1\. Immediate Pre\-Operative Period** * **Patient Reception:** Verify medical records, identification wristbands, fasting status, and preoperative preparation. * **Safe Surgery Checklist:** Assist in applying WHO protocols to ensure the right patient receives the correct procedure. ### **2\. Intraoperative Period** * **Operating Room Setup:** Assist in supplying materials, equipment, and supplies required for the specific type of surgery. * **Surgical Positioning:** Assist the team in positioning the patient on the operating table to prevent skin or nerve injuries, ensuring ergonomics and safety. * **Circulating Role:** Support the circulating nurse in opening sterile supplies, completing documentation, and connecting cables (e.g., electrosurgical unit, suction device, etc.). * **Instrumentation (Technical/Undergraduate Level):** Depending on the internship level, the student may practice instrumentation—organizing the surgical tray and anticipating the surgeon’s needs. ### **3\. Post\-Operative Period and Cleaning** * **Transfer to PACU:** Assist in transporting the patient to the Post\-Anesthesia Care Unit. * **Processing of Items:** Assist in verifying and forwarding materials and instruments to the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD). **Desired Experience and Skills** ---------------------------------------- Although internships are learning opportunities, certain prior or developing competencies greatly facilitate adaptation to the surgical environment: ### **Technical Knowledge (Hard Skills)** * **Basic Biosafety Principles:** Thorough understanding of hand hygiene, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and prevention of healthcare\-associated infections. * **Aseptic Technique:** Knowledge of the principle "sterile to sterile" and how to avoid contamination of the surgical field. * **Anatomy Knowledge:** Essential for understanding what occurs within the operative field and anticipating next steps. * **Basic Pharmacology:** Especially knowledge of anesthetics and emergency medications. ### **Behavioral Skills (Soft Skills)** * **Agility and Proactivity:** The operating room environment is dynamic; anticipating the team’s needs is a major advantage. * **Attention to Detail:** Minor errors—such as miscounting sponges or misidentifying biopsies—can have serious consequences. * **Resilience and Emotional Control:** Ability to maintain focus under pressure or during emergencies. * **Teamwork:** The operating room is a "mechanism" composed of physicians, nurses, technicians, and anesthesiologists; clear communication is essential. **Requirements and Qualifications** * Students from the 6th semester onward enrolled in Nursing programs **Additional Information** * Stipend \+ transportation allowance; * Availability to intern during morning shifts Founded on February 21, 1937 by Professor José Silveira, the José Silveira Foundation (FJS) has expanded its mission through sustainable growth, grounded in strategic planning and a commitment to achieving optimal outcomes.
