As a **Data Scientist Engineer** at Mercado Livre, you will design and scale innovative and secure systems that solve real-world, high-impact problems. You will work in a dynamic environment with cutting-edge technology, applying engineering best practices, proprietary AI models, and continuous learning—with the purpose of democratizing e-commerce and financial services across Latin America.
Imagine yourself leading challenging, dynamic, and innovative projects and **being responsible for:**
* Collaborating with the team to develop mathematical models, (meta)heuristics, approximation algorithms, and novel approaches to tackle current and future optimization challenges at Mercado Envios.
* Deepening engagement with academic literature—including research papers and textbooks—to help establish Mercado Livre as a regional leader in the field across Latin America.
* Understanding the problem and proposing solutions that deliver value to users and to Mercado Livre through the development of mathematical models using optimization and operations research.
* Supporting client areas in scenario analysis.
* Engaging users with a focus on operational efficiency, promoting an analytical culture, and supporting decision-making.
* Working directly with the Project Lead on project organization, requirements gathering, risk assessment, team allocation, KPI analysis, and other role-specific activities.
**What are we looking for in you?**
* In-depth knowledge of Linear Programming, Mixed-Integer Programming, heuristics, and metaheuristics.
* Familiarity with combinatorial optimization problems in Operations Research.
* Advanced knowledge of data structures and algorithms, plus programming experience in at least one language such as C/C\+\+, Python, Java, Go, etc.
* Experience with commercial solvers (CPLEX, Gurobi, Xpress) or open-source solvers (GLPK, CBC, lp\_solve).
* Professional experience solving practical optimization problems and applications; publications in reputable conferences or journals in Operations Research or optimization, continuous and linear optimization, machine learning, and statistical data analysis are considered strong differentiators.
