The Impact You Will Make in This Role 3M is seeking a Principal Cloud Engineer to provide technical leadership, strategic direction, and architectural vision for the cloud platforms powering global research at CRSL (Corporate Research Systems Lab), data analytics, workflow automation, and enterprise digital ecosystems at scale—including the OnePlace platform. As a Principal Cloud Engineer, you will serve as the primary cloud architect and technical subject matter expert for the area, responsible for driving long\-term cloud strategies, influencing platform roadmaps, governing cloud adoption across the organization, and ensuring our cloud environments achieve the highest levels of security, performance, scalability, and automation. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: * Define and lead the long\-term cloud architecture strategy for CRSL, covering AWS, Kubernetes, hybrid integrations, and enterprise platform ecosystems. * Serve as the foremost technical authority on AWS architecture, cloud security, networking, and distributed systems design for CRSL. * Lead architecture reviews, governance, standards development, and technical roadmaps for cloud platforms within CRSL and partner organizations. * Drive transformative cloud initiatives, including multi\-account strategy, landing zones, multi\-region architectures, and platform modernization. * Architect and validate mission\-critical systems, integrating AWS services, Databricks, Temporal.io, DataHub, MSK/Kafka, OpenSearch, and global identity platforms. * Establish enterprise standards for Infrastructure as Code, platform automation, observability, resilience engineering, and cost governance. * Design and oversee the Kubernetes (EKS) and container platform strategy, including cluster architecture, tenancy models, and operational frameworks. * Lead cross\-functional programs expanding the OnePlace and CRSL platforms into new geographies, business units, and scientific domains. * Collaborate with security, compliance, and IT governance teams to reinforce security frameworks, identity models, encryption standards, and audit requirements. * Mentor cloud engineers and senior technical talent, promoting engineering excellence across the organization. * Represent CRSL as a cloud thought leader, presenting architectural direction, technical strategy, and innovation initiatives to senior leadership. * Evaluate emerging cloud, AI, and automation technologies, driving adoption when they add value to research, engineering, or platform capabilities. * Author and publish high\-impact internal technical documents, architectural blueprints, and reference implementations that shape the future of cloud engineering at 3M. Your Skills and Experience To ensure your success from day one, 3M requires, at minimum: * Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution. * Experience in cloud engineering, cloud architecture, DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering. * Experience designing and operating production\-scale AWS environments in enterprise settings. * Proficiency in English. Additional qualifications that may help you succeed further in this role: * Deep expertise in AWS services, including IAM, S3, EKS, Lambda, MSK/Kafka, Aurora, Athena, VPC networking, Transit Gateways, and OpenSearch. * Extensive experience designing secure, scalable, and distributed cloud platforms using Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, CDK, or Terraform). * Proven leadership driving cloud programs involving multiple teams, platform modernization initiatives, or large\-scale cloud transformations. * Advanced certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect – Professional, DevOps Engineer – Professional, or equivalents. * Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. * Expertise in Databricks platform operations (Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, job orchestration, platform security). * Deep experience with DataHub, Temporal.io, or enterprise workflow/metadata platforms. * Strong background in multi\-region architectures, DR/BCP design, and resilience engineering. * Expertise with GitHub, GitHub Actions, CodeBuild, Docker, and large\-scale CI/CD frameworks. * Strong understanding of zero\-trust architectures, identity federation, and integrations with Microsoft Entra ID. * Experience evaluating and implementing emerging GenAI infrastructure, vector databases, and LLM orchestration patterns. * Hands\-on experience establishing observability platforms (Prometheus, CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, ELK, Splunk). * Demonstrated excellence mentoring senior engineers, promoting engineering culture, and influencing organizational strategy. * Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex architectural concepts to engineering teams and senior leadership. Work Location This position follows an on\-site model, requiring the employee to work in the Sumaré/SP office for at least four days per week.
