Job Summary: Work on developing biotechnological solutions for biomass conversion and enzyme production in a collaborative and dynamic environment. Key Highlights: 1. Filamentous fungal genetic engineering 2. Bioprocess development 3. Applied research, innovation, and validation To join the Fungal Biofactories Group at the National Laboratory of BioRenewables (LNBr) The Fungal Biofactories Group at LNBr focuses on developing biotechnological solutions for sustainable biomass conversion and for the production of industrially relevant enzymes and proteins. Our work includes genetic engineering of filamentous fungi—particularly Trichoderma reesei—with the aim of optimizing enzymatic cocktails, heterologous expression, saccharification processes, and bioprocess development. Our activities integrate applied research, innovation, and validation at laboratory and pilot scales. The group is distinguished by its collaborative, dynamic environment and commitment to scientific excellence. **Responsibilities and Duties** * Implement genetic modification strategies in microorganisms (with emphasis on filamentous fungi), including vector construction and expression cassette assembly. * Perform transformations, selection, and molecular validation of recombinant strains (PCR, qPCR, sequencing, etc.). * Assess gene expression levels and stability of constructs. * Carry out DNA extraction and quantification. * Develop and execute protein purification protocols (affinity chromatography, ion exchange, size exclusion, among others). * Determine biochemical and kinetic parameters (specific activity, Km, Vmax, optimal pH and temperature, thermal stability, and stability under various process conditions). * Evaluate enzymatic synergy and performance on industrially relevant substrates. * Plan and conduct quantitative and qualitative enzymatic assays. * Design experiments using appropriate statistical design. * Organize and maintain experimental records and databases. * Contribute to drafting technical reports, project deliverables, and scientific manuscripts. * Collaborate integrally with other teams within the group. **Requirements and Qualifications** * Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Engineering, or related fields; * Experience in molecular biology; * Knowledge of cultivation and maintenance of filamentous fungi; * Experience in biochemical characterization of proteins; * Experience with chromatographic techniques (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion); * Experience with protein analysis (SDS\-PAGE, protein quantification); * Experience in organizing and ensuring traceability of experimental data, and in preparing technical reports and scientific documentation; * Familiarity with data organization and analysis tools (Excel, GraphPad, R or similar); * Intermediate English required (reading and comprehension). **Desirable** * Knowledge of statistical analysis of experimental data and interpretation of results; * Knowledge of experimental planning using appropriate statistical design. **Additional Information** **Our Benefits** Medical Assistance – Unimed Dental Assistance – Uniodonto Psychological Assistance – Telavita Life Insurance – Allianz Private Pension Plan – BrasilPrev Maternity Leave (extended for 6 months) Paternal Leave (25 days) Childcare Allowance On-site Restaurant Meal and/or Food Allowance – Pluxee (R$1\.020,00/month) Shuttle Service Transportation Allowance On-site Parking Club – Telecamp Club – Free SESC Association Wellhub – Discounts at gyms Partnerships with companies offering discounts **We reaffirm our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, encouraging applications from people with disabilities, neurodiverse individuals, women, LGBTI\+, people of diverse ethnicities, generations, and body types, as well as other socially marginalized groups.** At the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), we are driven by passion for science. Our environment is a vibrant research and development hub where professionals from diverse specialties connect to tackle complex challenges and create solutions for relevant problems—especially in health, energy, renewable materials, and sustainability. We are a Social Organization supervised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), at the forefront of scientific research in Brazil. We operate Sirius—the largest scientific infrastructure ever built in the country—and are currently developing the Orion project: a state-of-the-art laboratory complex dedicated to advanced pathogen research, which will be available to the national and international scientific community. We offer a broad range of career opportunities for professionals of diverse profiles. At CNPEM, we conduct cutting-edge research spanning nanotechnology, biosciences, biotechnology, bio-renewables, scientific instrumentation, and accelerator physics—carried out respectively by the National Nanotechnology Laboratory (LNNano), Biosciences Laboratory (LNBio), BioRenewables Laboratory (LNBR), and Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS). These initiatives are strengthened by challenging technology projects and frontier engineering solutions led by the Adjunct Directorate of Technology (DAT). This entire ecosystem is supported by an integrated network of strategic areas—including information technology, communications, project management, legal \& compliance advisory, human resources, finance, procurement, sustainability, and innovation—distributed across the General Directorate (DG) and the Shared Services Directorate (DSC). The Adjunct Infrastructure Directorate (DAI) ensures facility maintenance, engineering support, and architectural development, creating ideal conditions for advancing all activities. Ilum School of Science complements these efforts with a Bachelor’s program in Science and Technology, offering innovative training that prepares new generations of scientists for future challenges. We believe success is achieved through dedication, collaboration, and clear purpose. We value continuous development of our professionals and students, providing an inspiring and supportive environment for professional and personal growth. We are committed to sustainability and seek solutions that promote a greener future. We prioritize the care and well-being of our employees while valuing diversity and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome and respected. **If you are passionate about science and seeking a place where you can make a difference, join us at CNPEM.**
