The organization comprises the Environmental Protection Department, the Police Department, the Administration Department, and the Staff Unit — approximately 50 employees in fixed-term positions in total. We operate in a work environment where proximity among professional groups, short decision-making lines, and a strong sense of community shape everyday life. Svalbard is not a life-cycle community, and some services are more limited than on mainland Norway. Nature offers great opportunities for experiences, outdoor recreation, and exploration — both nearby and across the Arctic wilderness.
