We are building a global API-first payments platform, with an architecture that already supports critical business components required to scale internationally. Much of this foundation was accelerated by intensive use of artificial intelligence in code generation, enabling the product to advance rapidly and reach a functional stage in a short time. We are now entering a different phase. More than building new features, we need to ensure everything created is solid, predictable, and sustainable in production. We seek a senior developer capable of critically analyzing complex systems, identifying architectural risks, performance bottlenecks, consistency issues, security flaws, and points of fragility before they become real incidents. We are looking for someone with hands-on experience in distributed systems, high-availability applications, and mission-critical environments — someone who can navigate an extensive codebase without relying on perfect documentation or fully structured processes. The ideal candidate questions technical decisions when necessary, understands the trade-offs involved in every choice, and can transform a working product into a platform ready to grow reliably. More than writing code, this role demands technical judgment. We need someone who can view the system holistically and clearly and deeply identify what needs to be fixed, simplified, or reinforced so the platform continues evolving without compromising stability, performance, and scalability. **Responsibilities and duties** **Your goal:** Be the final line of defense between code and real money. Concretely: * **"This structure will break in production"** — Identify failure points before they cause downtime. Services that crash silently, missing restart policies, monitoring gaps, processes that fail to recover from crashes * **"This code will cost us financially"** — Duplicate charges, race conditions in the ledger, lack of idempotency, refund/dispute flows without guards, incomplete reconciliation * **"There is a security issue here"** — Exposed secrets, lack of encryption at rest, misconfigured VPC, endpoints without authentication, injection vectors in AI-generated code * **"This database will fail"** — Unsafe migrations, missing backup/disaster recovery, unindexed queries, poorly structured transactions, schema changes causing downtime **Your responsibilities:** * Serve as the technical authority in the platform’s evolution, reviewing architecture, critical flows (including financial ones), and engineering and infrastructure decisions to ensure long-term scalability, reliability, and sustainability. * Proactively identify production risks, edge cases in critical flows, performance bottlenecks, data consistency issues, security vulnerabilities, and single points of failure before they impact customers or operations. * Conduct deep analysis of the existing codebase — including AI-generated backend code (TypeScript \+ Go) — proposing and implementing structural improvements that increase system quality, maintainability, and predictability. * Build end-to-end integration tests that validate critical flows and ensure sufficient observability to detect issues within minutes. * Collaborate across product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions, balancing delivery speed with operational excellence. * Define and disseminate best practices for development, testing, observability, and operations, contributing to an engineering culture focused on quality, stability, and continuous improvement. **Stack:** * TypeScript * Hono.js * Drizzle ORM * Go * PostgreSQL (Aurora Serverless) * Redis * Temporal * Docker * AWS ECS Fargate * Terraform * Cloudflare **Requirements and qualifications** **We are looking for someone who:** * Has **\+5 years in backend**, preferably in fintech or payments * Has operated systems in production handling real money — incidents, postmortems, on-call * Knows how to audit AI-generated code and find what AI missed * Has instinct for "this will cause problems" before problems occur * Knows PostgreSQL deeply (transactions, locking, migration safety, disaster recovery) * Has experience with observability (tracing, alerting, runbooks) * Prioritizes **accuracy \> speed** — a ledger bug in production costs more than a week of delay **Nice-to-haves:** * Experience with PCI DSS compliance * Familiarity with double-entry ledger systems * Experience with Temporal or distributed workflows * Go for high-performance services * Has previously found (and fixed) financial bugs in production Fluveo is a financial technology company building a complete payments and commerce platform for product teams.
