Explore this role and follow along with the selection process. **In this role, you will be responsible for:** At Rentcars, data powers our critical products and real-time systems. As a **Senior Data Engineer**, you’ll serve as both architect and guardian of our information flows — owning the full lifecycle, from massive data ingestion to final *serving* for APIs and digital products. We seek a technical reference for the team — someone who balances delivery speed with secure, stable, and cost-optimized solutions. * **End-to-End Engineering:** Design, develop, and maintain efficient and scalable data pipelines covering both *batch* and *streaming* processing from multiple sources. * **Data Serving & APIs:** Build data APIs (REST or GraphQL) and create *Data Services* designed for integration with microservices and Machine Learning solutions. * **Observability & Sustainment:** Ensure monitoring of pipeline quality and performance (logs, metrics, alerts), and perform *troubleshooting* and resolution of complex incidents. * **Cloud Architecture & FinOps:** Support the DataOps Lead in defining cloud architectures — prioritizing performance, security, and cost optimization. * **Operational Continuity:** Contribute to implementing backup, *restore*, governance, compliance, and disaster recovery strategies (RPO/RTO). * **Interfaces & Collaboration:** Build internal visual interfaces using tools like Streamlit/Dash, and collaborate directly with ML Engineers, Data Scientists, and Product Owners. ### **What we expect from you (experience, soft and hard skills):** * **Work mode: hybrid**, for residents of **Curitiba and surrounding areas** (3 days onsite, 2 remote), fully remote for candidates elsewhere in Brazil. * **Experience:** Minimum of 5 years of hands-on Data Engineering experience in medium- to large-scale production environments. * **Strong Technical Foundation:** At least 5 years of proven expertise in **Python** and **SQL**. * **Data Ecosystem:** Minimum of 3 years working with ingestion, transformation, and orchestration tools (**Airflow, Spark, PySpark, Kafka, Kinesis**). *dbt is considered a plus.* * **APIs & Backend:** At least 2 years building data APIs (REST/GraphQL), integrating with microservices, and using frameworks such as **FastAPI, Flask, Django, Uvicorn, or Express.js**. * **AWS Cloud:** Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with AWS services (**S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena, EMR, Kinesis**, etc.). * **DevOps & Infrastructure:** At least 3 years deploying with **Docker and Kubernetes (EKS or ECS)**, plus 2 years with Infrastructure-as-Code (**Terraform** or CloudFormation). * **Observability:** Minimum of 2 years applying practices with **Prometheus and Grafana**. * **Engineering Processes:** At least 2 years of experience with CI/CD pipelines and code versioning, plus hands-on experience with data backup and rollback strategies. * **Interface Tooling:** At least 1 year developing interfaces with **Streamlit**, Dash, or Panel. * **Owner Mindset:** Full commitment to stability, security, and operational reliability of solutions. * **Proactivity & Resilience:** Comfort building solutions from scratch and ability to prioritize tasks in dynamic environments. * **Operational Critical Thinking:** Anticipate issues and propose improvements before they become production failures. * **Excellent Communication:** Ability to discuss, negotiate, and align with both technical and business stakeholders. * **Long-Term Vision:** Balance agile delivery urgency with system sustainability and architectural integrity. ### **Nice-to-have qualifications:** * Experience with open table formats (**Iceberg** or Delta Table) and **Data Lakehouse** environments (2+ years). * Knowledge of Data Catalogs and Data Lineage (e.g., **Open Metadata**). * Familiarity with Data Quality or Data Observability tools (**Great Expectations**, Monte Carlo). * Hands-on experience with data encryption and *serverless* architectures. * Projects involving **MLOps** and dataset versioning (**DVC**, Hudi). * Track record in cloud cost management and environment optimization. * Active participation in data engineering communities.
