Pre-Analytical Laboratory Assistant
The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for supporting laboratory activities in accordance with established procedures and technical standards. This role involves sample collection, preparation, and analysis, as well as maintaining laboratory organization and cleanliness. The professional works under supervision, contributing to the smooth operation of the laboratory.
SAMPLE COLLECTION:
* Perform biological sample collection;
* Receive samples collected by customers;
* Identify samples (collected or received) and prepare them for transport, ensuring preservation and stability;
* Verify expiration dates and batch numbers of supplies used during collection, recording their opening;
* Restock materials in collection rooms.
* Conduct external collections—corporate and residential—as required;
* Prepare or receive the sample transport kit;
* Check and record the temperature of the transport kit.
* Clean and organize collection rooms;
* Collect sharps containers and garbage bags when full or ready for handover to the specialized transportation company (Colix);
* Dispose of waste properly, ensuring correct identification and use of appropriate containers.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
* Provide customer service and register private test requests or requisition forms;
* Cross-check requisitions against registered information;
* Respond to WhatsApp messages;
* Provide telephone support;
* Guide customers using information retrieved from the Lab Apoio website;
* Deliver ICC (Instructions for Collection and Preparation) to customers, ensuring proper preparation for self-collection and/or testing;
* Handle financial transactions (e.g., collect payment for tests);
* Issue collection confirmation receipts indicating delivery timelines;
* Send results to physicians and customers;
* Deliver sealed reports and update SIL (Laboratory Information System) records.
SECONDARY ACTIVITIES:
* Organize and store records generated by laboratory activities (e.g., work logs, protocols, requisitions);
* Sort samples for the serum bank, maintaining optimal temperatures to ensure sample stability;
* Autoclave equipment and materials;
* Clean instruments, equipment, and workbenches;
* Perform sterilization, disinfection, washing, and drying of materials and utensils;
* Monitor and record temperatures of laboratory equipment and environments;
* Aliquot reagents and label them accordingly;
* Prepare dilutions of culture media;
* Perform microbiology department activities and related quality controls: inoculate urine and stool cultures, perform Rugai tests, and conduct antimicrobial susceptibility testing (antibiograms);
* Perform mycology department activities: inoculate fungal cultures;
* Perform hematology department activities and related quality controls: run complete blood counts (CBCs) on analyzers, prepare blood smears, measure erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), reticulocyte count, and blood typing;
* Perform urinalysis department activities and related quality controls: prepare urine specimens for microscopic examination;
* Perform immunology tests and related quality controls: VDRL, beta-hCG, PCR, rheumatoid factor (RF), and rapid tests for COVID-19, Influenza, and Dengue NS1;
* Stain microscope slides;
* Manage inventory control;
* Place orders with central supply warehouse;
* Submit support requests.
