It was initially named Auerbach \& Werner, derived from the names of its German-origin owners: engineer Paul Werner and blacksmith Ernst Auerbach. The company grew and incorporated steel into its production line, changing its name to Electro Aço Altona in 1933\. Thus emerged Santa Catarina's first steel foundry and one of Brazil's earliest. Over the past decade, it has acquired other companies to accommodate and expand its production line, as well as established overseas subsidiaries to strengthen customer support in high-demand commercial regions such as Europe and North America. Altona continuously progresses, consistently identifying the most dynamic sectors of the economy to broaden its scope, develop new markets, and deliver its steel solutions across diverse industries.
