Description
Job Summary:
CNC Machine Operator responsible for setup, operation, monitoring, quality control, and basic maintenance for part production.
Key Highlights:
1. Full involvement in CNC machine operations, including setup and measurement
2. Focus on metrology and wear compensation for precision
3. Responsibility for basic maintenance and workplace organization
Job Responsibilities:
1\. Setup
* **Reading Technical Drawings:** Interprets dimensions, angles, and tolerances of the part on paper or screen.
* **Workpiece Fixturing:** Secures raw material (bars, sheets, or blocks) onto the machine table or lathe chuck, ensuring no movement occurs.
* **Tooling Assembly:** Selects and installs cutting tools (drills, end mills, inserts) into tool holders or magazines.
* **Zero Setting:** Defines the "Part Zero" and "Tool Zero", informing the machine precisely where the material begins in 3D space.
2\. Operation and Monitoring
* **Loading and Unloading:** Feeds new parts into the machine and removes finished parts.
* **Parameter Adjustment:** Monitors cutting speed and feed rate. If excessive vibration or tool overheating occurs, makes fine adjustments via feed override controls.
* **Cutting Fluid:** Ensures coolant reaches the correct location to prevent tool breakage and guarantee surface finish.
3\. Quality Control (Metrology)
* **Measurement:** Uses instruments such as **calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators** to verify whether the manufactured part conforms to the original drawing.
* **Wear Compensation:** Since tools wear during use, the operator enters "offsets" into the machine's computer so it compensates for lost micrometers and maintains precision.
4\. Basic Maintenance and Organization
* **Cleaning:** Removes chips (metal swarf) to prevent jamming.
* **Checklist:** Verifies lubricating oil levels and pneumatic pressure of equipment.
