By assuming the role of **Senior Data Scientist** at Afya, your primary objective will be to **develop advanced data science and artificial intelligence solutions that generate strategic impact for products, operations, and company decision-making**. You will work within the **Data & AI** area, under the **Technology & Product** leadership, and become part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating daily with colleagues from **Product, Engineering, and Analytics**. **All our opportunities are open to people with disabilities (PwD) and INSS-rehabilitated individuals.** ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **Responsibilities and duties** **HOW YOU WILL TRANSFORM HEALTHCARE DAILY:** --------------------------------------------------- * **Develop** statistical models and machine learning solutions applied to business and product challenges; * **Build** and evolve generative AI solutions focused on LLMs and SLMs; * **Conduct** advanced statistical analyses, A/B tests, and causal inference studies; * **Design** scalable and resilient data science pipelines and architectures; * **Ensure** best practices in MLOps and LLMOps, including monitoring, observability, and model governance; * **Work** across the full model development lifecycle—from discovery through production and performance tracking; * **Collaborate** with Engineering and Product teams to turn models into applicable and scalable solutions; * **Establish** evaluation and experimentation processes for continuous model improvement; * **Contribute** to disseminating best practices and advancing the team’s technical capabilities; * **Stay current** with trends, research, and advancements in artificial intelligence and data science. **Requirements and qualifications** **WHAT WE SEEK (though we do not expect any single candidate to meet all requirements):** ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * **Completed postgraduate degree** in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields; * **Proven, advanced experience with Python**, using libraries such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch; * **Solid knowledge of statistics, causal inference, and experimental design**, including A/B testing; * **Experience with Machine Learning techniques**, such as classification, regression, clustering, and time series; * **Knowledge of Deep Learning** and advanced AI models; * **Practical experience developing and deploying generative AI solutions**, especially LLMs and SLMs; * **Mastery of the Data Science lifecycle (MLOps/LLMOps)**, including architecture, evaluation, monitoring, and observability; * **Experience with model versioning and orchestration tools**, such as MLflow; * **Advanced English proficiency**, especially for reading scientific papers and technical communication; **Bonus qualifications:** * Experience with Databricks; * Experience with distributed processing using Spark. **Additional information** **BENEFITS:** --------------- **PEOPLE ARE OUR GREATEST ASSET**, which is why we offer benefits and partnerships to our team.
