Be part of a high-impact technical team As a **Backend Software Engineer** at Mercado Livre, you will design and scale innovative and secure systems that solve real-world, high-impact problems. You will work in a dynamic environment leveraging cutting-edge technology, applying sound engineering practices, proprietary AI models, and continuous learning — all aimed at democratizing e-commerce and financial services across Latin America. Imagine tackling challenging, dynamic, and innovative projects, **and being responsible for:** * Being part of a high-impact technical team within Cloud & Platform, with a strategic vision of the services that form the backbone of asynchronous communication at MELI. * Designing and implementing solutions that process billions of events per day, ensuring high throughput, low latency, resilience, and availability. * Working with reactive architectures such as Quarkus, WebFlux, and Vert.x, applying patterns like backpressure, safe concurrency, and non-blocking I/O to maximize performance in distributed environments. * Maintaining and developing highly complex services — such as BigQueue, Streams, Schedule Engine, Workqueues, Workflows, etc. — while identifying new services to build based on real business needs or technological evolution. * Proactively and intensively using AI tools to enhance end-user experience, while simultaneously contributing to internal process automation — including validation, testing, monitoring, deployment, and debugging — aiming to reduce human error and increase operational robustness. This includes collaborating on building efficient deployment processes, on-call guides, clear documentation, and support tools — CLIs, scripts, dashboards, etc. **What we’re looking for in you?** * Solid experience in Java and deep expertise in concurrency, parallelism, and high-performance systems. * Experience with Quarkus/WebFlux/Vert.x and advanced reactive patterns: Reactive Streams/backpressure, non-blocking I/O, resilience (circuit breaker, bulkhead, retries), idempotency/Outbox, partitioning and ordering, rate limiting/load shedding. * Experience building distributed cloud-based systems handling large data volumes and demanding high availability requirements, plus the ability to model scalable architectures and apply advanced design patterns. * Experience using AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, CodeWhisperer, etc. — this is a plus; familiarity with REST APIs, Git, New Relic, DataDog, etc. is also a plus. * Availability to support critical deployment windows (typically between 0:00 and 3:00 AM), always scheduled in advance and shared among team members. **Are you excited to leave your mark on Latin America’s tech landscape?** Apply now and join our purpose!
