### **Description** ### **Additional Requirements** The Deputy Chief Engineer is responsible to the Chief Engineer for: * Preparing the main propulsion and other machinery space installations for navigation * Conducting daily effective and efficient operation of the main propulsion and other machinery space installations * Organizing and supervising the machinery space watchkeeping officers / UMS service engineers * Organizing and supervising the subordinates of the Engineering Department and other department personnel * Efficiently operating all emergency equipment. Testing all emergency equipment, including equipment not located in machinery spaces, e.g.: Emergency Generator, Emergency Fire Pump, Lifeboat Engines, Fire Dampers (Fire Flaps), Emergency Stops, and Quick-Closing Valves for Fuel Tanks * Adopting safe working practices onboard * Taking all necessary measures to ensure environmental protection * Maintaining the main propulsion, auxiliary machinery, cargo handling equipment, and deck machinery * Maintaining machinery spaces and internal steel surfaces, including general cleaning * Fully participating in VMS management meetings onboard * Ensuring complete familiarity with all piping systems and control valves, as well as electrical systems, so that essential services can be rapidly and safely restored during emergencies * Ensuring that a competent Engineering Officer tests boiler water and feedwater systems daily. In case of contamination indications, ensuring immediate notification to the Chief Engineer. Ensuring all test results are recorded in the Engine Logbook and in treatment reporting forms or in the provided software * Informing the Chief Engineer of spare parts requirements, as well as maintaining stock levels and the reporting system * Ensuring safety measures are implemented in the machinery spaces, per instructions from the Master / Ship Security Officer * Assisting the Chief Engineer in training and developing junior officers and subordinates of the Engineering Department * Observing and learning the duties of the Chief Engineer whenever appropriate opportunities arise * Performing any other tasks and duties as instructed by the Chief Engineer. ### **About V.Group** V.Group provides a full range of ship management and marine support services to ship owners and operators around the globe, as well as the ability to blend those services together in unique combinations to meet specific customer needs.
