Duties include, but are not limited to:
* Comply with the provisions outlined in the "Captain's Standing Orders";
* Participate in vessel maneuvers, occupying the assigned station;
* Assist during anchoring, weighing anchor, berthing, unberthing, entering and leaving dry docks, and other vessel-related operations as directed by the supervisor;
* Receive and transport deck section consumable materials to storerooms;
* Become familiar with cargo handling equipment and operate it when necessary, provided appropriate training has been received;
* Perform maintenance tasks on the vessel, including treatment, cleaning, and painting of the deck and superstructure;
* Perform general duties in other vessel departments as requested by the Chief Officer via the Bosun;
* Ballast and deballast the vessel;
* Maintain safety and lifesaving equipment;
* Maintain deck equipment, workshop tools, etc.;
* Assist the Bosun in all deck evolutions, including soundings;
* Perform necessary maintenance on one's own cabin;
* Position fire-fighting equipment near the fuel intake point during oil transfer operations;
* Deploy or retract the pilot ladder for boarding or disembarking the pilot, and hoist or lower flags and signals designated by the Officer of the Watch;
* Perform daily bridge cleaning;
* Participate in tank cleaning evolutions when requested by the Chief Officer and/or Chief Engineer;
* When assigned to bridge watch:
* In adverse weather conditions, close deck doors, scuttles, and hatches;
* Closely monitor vessel movement, landmarks, nearby vessels, and immediately report any irregularities observed to the Officer of the Watch;
* When assigned to gangway watch:
* Remain at post and only leave to fulfill duties inherent to the position, requesting a substitute;
* Always wear full PPE appropriate for the task and treat others courteously, politely, and respectfully;
* Prevent unauthorized personnel from boarding the vessel, in accordance with received instructions, and promptly inform the Officer of the Watch of any anomalies;
* Inspect mooring lines, gangway ladder, boarding plank, safety nets, etc., and report any irregularities observed to the Officer of the Watch;
* Hoist and lower flags;
* Maintain the access control log properly completed and signed, observing visitor entry and exit times;
* Loading and Unloading Operations:
* Prepare the deck to receive cargo at port, clearing space;
* Assist the Officer of the Watch in inspecting cargo condition and stowage location;
* Supervise port workers to ensure compliance with safety regulations, such as proper PPE usage and smoking prohibition;
* Report to the Officer of the Watch any signs of cargo tampering or irregularities observed;
* Provide necessary materials for cargo lashing;
* Assist the Chief Officer in verifying cargo lashing prior to departure;
* Undo cargo lashing upon request;
* Verify validity of one's "Maritime Health Certificate" and ensure timely renewal before expiration;
* Participate in integrated evolutions;
* Work carefully and competently, using required PPE to safely perform duties and ensuring others involved do likewise;
* Understand one's role and all roles listed in the vessel's emergency evolution master table;
* Familiarize oneself with the location and operation of vessel safety and lifesaving equipment;
* Participate in risk assessments prior to activities.
