Job Summary: A professional who operates and adjusts machine tools to machine metal and composite parts, controlling quality while applying safety and environmental preservation measures. Environmental preservation actions Prepare, adjust, and operate machine tools that machine metal and composite parts, controlling parameters and quality of machined parts while applying safety procedures to performed tasks. Plan sequences of operations and perform technical calculations; may implement environmental preservation actions. Depending on the division of labor within the company, they may only prepare or only operate machine tools. PLAN OPERATIONAL SEQUENCE \- Interpret data, define priorities, interpret technical drawings, analyze machine machining capacity, select machines according to production demand, select materials for machining, select components and accessories for machining, select required tools, apply process control methods, select measurement instrumentation; PERFORM TECHNICAL CALCULATIONS \- Consult product drawings, identify calculation type, consult technical manuals, tables, specific data and standards, calculate machining parameters, use equipment parameters, apply manufacturer and tool data, calculate feed rate, revolutions per minute (rpm), and strokes per minute (spm), evaluate tool consumption; PREPARE MACHINES \- Interpret manufacturing process, perform first-level maintenance, fix fixture and workpiece on machine according to manufacturing process, evaluate characteristics of intended cutting tool, sharpen cutting tool, mount tool on machine, adjust machine, instruct operator; OPERATE MACHINE TOOLS \- Interpret operation plan, execute machining process, control product quality during process (visual and dimensional), correct tool imperfections (wear and breakage), maximize machine efficiency, record part batch; CONTROL MACHINED PARTS \- Verify calibration validity of instrument, verify instrument calibration, dimensionally inspect parts, calibrate tools, adjust machine parameters, control quality of machined parts according to established standard, apply statistical process control (SPC); MAINTAIN COMMUNICATION WITH TEAM \- Exchange information regarding service progress, record process deviations in occurrence logbook, provide technical and professional support, deliver clear and objective information, communicate with maintenance department for necessary actions, integrate with other departments for timing adjustments and technical corrections, keep production records updated, record information about implemented changes, communicate with responsible department for waste transportation, requisition consumable materials; APPLY SAFETY PROCEDURES \- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and collective protective equipment (CPE), comply with safety regulations, inspect condition of equipment and tools, maintain order and cleanliness at workplace, identify maintenance needs, maintain lifting equipment in appropriate condition, operate lifting equipment according to regulations and procedures, evaluate quality of personal protective equipment (PPE) and collective protective equipment (CPE), administer first aid according to procedures, propose solutions to eliminate safety hazards; IMPLEMENT ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVATION ACTIONS \- Classify industrial waste, store waste in designated locations, identify waste and products, quantify waste volume for disposal, propose solutions to eliminate environmental hazards, handle chemical products according to manufacturer specifications, monitor implementation of environmental preservation actions.
