Lead technical teams in underground geotechnical engineering We have an opportunity to act as Geomechanics Coordinator for the Underground Project—the largest global project at Appian. Candidate information collected during open recruitment processes is handled rigorously in compliance with LGPD—the General Data Protection Law.* **Responsibilities and Duties** * Coordinate execution of the Massif Control Plan (GCMP), ensuring adherence to guidelines defined by management; * Ensure proper monitoring of rock mass behavior and caving process, assessing stability, subsidence, and dilution control; * Coordinate geological and geotechnical mapping of production and development faces, ensuring standardized logging, database updates, and integration of information with geotechnical and geological models; * Coordinate installation and maintenance of geotechnical instrumentation (extensometers, prisms, piezometers, radars, seismographs, etc.) and analyze data to guide field actions. * Support numerical stability modeling (RS3, FLAC3D, among others), interpret results, and propose recommendations for mining planning and support design; * Prepare technical reports, risk maps, and geotechnical action plans; * Ensure application of geomechanical classification systems (RMR, Q, GSI) and use of technical criteria to define primary and secondary supports; * Supervise QA/QC implementation during support installation and ground control system deployment. * Support operations teams in short- and medium-term technical decision-making to ensure safety and operational continuity; * Coordinate and develop underground geotechnical engineering teams, promoting training and best practices; * Collaborate with Safety, Geology, Planning, and Operations departments to align strategies and mitigate geotechnical risks. **Requirements and Qualifications** **Mandatory Requirements (education, experience, technical knowledge, etc.):** * Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related fields; * Postgraduate degree or specialization in Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or related disciplines; * Solid experience in geotechnical engineering applied to mining; * Experience in mechanized underground projects and operations, preferably using caving methods; * Hands-on experience in implementing and monitoring geotechnical instrumentation systems; * Experience in designing supports for underground excavations and subsidence control; * Leadership of technical and operational teams in mine development and opening contracts; * Proficiency in geotechnical modeling software: Itasca (FLAC3D, 3DEC), Rocscience (RS3\) and/or Massflow; * Advanced English; * CAD software and geotechnical data integration tools knowledge is desirable. **Additional Information** Residency in Itagibá/BA is mandatory for work at Santa Rita Mine. **Benefits:** Health insurance – Bradesco Saúde Dental insurance – Bradesco Dental Life insurance Meal allowance and food allowance Wellhub Conexa Saúde Atlantic Nickel is a company that concentrates its operations in one of the world’s largest open-pit sulfide nickel mines!
