**Purpose**
Lead and integrate operational geology, sampling, grade control, mineral reconciliation, surveying, geological modeling, and technical support to operations—ensuring safe, reliable, and sustainable delivery of planned ore.
This role plays a central part in reconciling the geological model, mine plan, extracted ore, and metallurgical performance—identifying deviations, root causes, and improvement opportunities—with focus on reducing dilution, ore loss, grade variability, and operational risks.
Additionally, it must ensure effective integration between surveying, mining advance, volume control, and spatial positioning of faces—supporting short-term decisions and ensuring adherence to the plan, operational safety, and reliability of data used in decision-making.
This position must promote operational discipline, continuous improvement, technological innovation, and people development—directly contributing to resource-to-reserve conversion, ore value maximization, and sustainable growth of the Cuiabá Complex.
**Responsibilities and Accountabilities**
* Ensure all geology, sampling, and surveying activities are conducted safely, with operational discipline, and full compliance with AngloGold Ashanti’s health, safety, and environmental standards—as well as applicable legislation and compliance requirements. Ensure conformity with corporate standards and resource and reserve reporting codes, supporting internal and external audits.
* Lead operational geology and grade control activities—ensuring appropriate geological mapping, accurate definition of ore/waste contacts, and consistent application of the short-term geological model—with emphasis on minimizing losses, dilution, and grade variability.
* Collaborate closely with mine planning and operations to support short- and medium-term decision-making.
* Define, implement, and maintain robust sampling standards—ensuring representativeness, traceability, and data quality from collection through laboratory analysis. Ensure effective implementation of QA/QC procedures—including standards, blanks, duplicates, and audits—as well as integrity and governance of geological and production databases.
* Lead the mineral reconciliation process across the geological model, mine plan, mined ore, and metallurgical performance—analyzing grade, tonnage, dilution, and recovery deviations. Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective actions—using results to feed back into models, operational practices, and planning—to enhance predictability and reliability.
* Ensure effective integration among geology, surveying, and operations—guaranteeing accurate surveys of mining advance, volumetric control, and spatial positioning of faces. Validate reliability of survey data used in production control, reconciliation, and planning.
* Maintain up-to-date and reliable geological models—contributing to resource-to-reserve conversion—and provide technical support for studies, projects, and strategic initiatives.
* Lead, develop, and engage teams of geologists, supervisors, technicians, surveyors, and assistants—fostering high performance, succession planning, diversity, and continuous improvement. Serve as a technical and behavioral reference—strengthening a culture of collaboration, accountability, and operational excellence.
* Manage area budget, resources, and contracts—pursuing cost efficiency without compromising safety or technical quality. Evaluate and implement technologies, automation, and digital solutions that add value to mine geology, sampling, and surveying activities.
