For him, time does not move in a straight line. Everything is constantly changing, transforming—like a river that never stops flowing—and at the same time, everything could happen again, as if life were repeating itself in an endless cycle. Tragedy, for Nietzsche, is not merely sadness or suffering: it is seeing life as it truly is, with its highs and lows, beauty and chaos. This strength of fully accepting life, without regrets, he called amor fati, \"love of fate.\" This is the perspective we will explore throughout the course AMOR FATI: TIME AND TRAGEDY IN NIETZSCHE, tracing from Nietzsche’s pre-Socratic inspiration in Heraclitus to his final formulations, unraveling how these ideas intertwine and invite us to affirmatively embrace destiny. We will reflect on how we can learn to embrace our own fate and find, even in difficulties, a way to say \"yes\" to life. The course takes place on January 27, 28, and 29, from 7 PM to 9 PM.Get to Know the Instructor:Felipe Karasek is a psychoanalyst and professor. It's no wonder the genre has been winning legions of admirers, overcoming cultural, age, and linguistic differences.\n\nIn partnership with the Sociedade Brasileira de Psicanálise de Porto Alegre through its Childhood and Adolescence Nucleus, Instituto Ling presents Cine Anime, a project that aims to discuss the richness of Japanese animated film scripts within the context of subjectivity, addressing symbolic issues and exploring themes such as emotional maturation and intergenerational dialogue.\n\nClosing the project's second season, we have chosen the classic animated feature My Neighbor Totoro, released in 1988, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli.\n\nMy Neighbor Totoro is an animation set in rural Japan in the 1950s. The story follows sisters Satsuki and Mei, who move with their father into an old house in the countryside while their mother recovers from an illness. Surrounded by lush nature and enchanting mysteries, they meet Totoro, a forest spirit visible only to children with pure hearts. With magical rides on the Catbus and tender encounters, the film celebrates childhood, imagination, and connection with the natural world.\n\nInspired by Miyazaki's own childhood and the landscapes of Sayama, the film conveys an atmosphere of calm and affection. Released alongside Grave of the Fireflies, it represents the light and poetic side of Studio Ghibli. The simplicity and delicacy of the narrative reflect the director's philosophy: valuing everyday life, nature, and the child's perspective on the world.\n\nThe discussion will be led by psychoanalyst and anime enthusiast Júlio Sperb, member of the SBPdePA Institute, together with psychoanalyst and SBPdePA member Fabiana Grass, and visual artist and illustrator Marco Arruda.\n\n• For the full experience of the program, we recommend watching the film, available to Netflix subscribers. The film will not be screened during this event.\n\nInstituto Ling is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive experience for all its visitors. This program offers the possibility of hiring a Libras interpreter. If you require this service, please indicate it on the registration form.\n\nAbout the panelists:\n\nJúlio Sperb is a psychoanalyst, member of the Instituto da Sociedade Brasileira de Psicanálise de Porto Alegre (SBPdePA), and a physician graduated from Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPel). He is part of the Childhood and Adolescence Nucleus (NIA) of SBPdePA.\n\nFabiana Britto Grass is a psychoanalyst, member of the Sociedade Brasileira de Psicanálise de Porto Alegre (SBPdePA). About the guest: Nina Lacaz (São Paulo, 1995) holds a degree in Fashion Design from FAAP-SP (2016) and worked in the fashion industry for nearly ten years, notably with Estúdio Kant, her own brand creating exclusive prints inspired by Art Déco, the Brazilian neoconcrete movement, and styles such as Op Art and Kinetic Art. In 2021, she began working in the contemporary art market, joining the commercial departments of São Paulo galleries such as Andrea Rehder Arte Contemporânea and Gomide&Co. Concurrently, she is pursuing a specialization in Art: Criticism and Curatorship at PUC-SP (2023–2025), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Fabio Cypriano. Her thesis investigates the cataloging of Guto Lacaz’s archive, confronting the technical challenges of documenting over five decades of dispersed artistic production—including urban interventions, site-specific installations, performances, and kinetic objects—with the emotional and methodological issues that arise when family memory and documentary rigor intertwine. Currently, she works in the commercial department of Gomide&Co, while also developing the first complete inventory of Guto Lacaz’s body of work and producing curatorial texts. Released by the prestigious American label Origin Records (Seattle), this is the ensemble's third release with the record company, recognized as one of the most important in global jazz. The lineup features prominent musicians from the international scene: Alon Farber (soprano and alto saxophones), Moshe Elmakias (piano), Assaf Hakimi (bass), and Jorge Perez-Albela (drums). The album features entirely original compositions, yet shows strong influences from major music figures such as Charles Mingus (in Mingus Dream), Béla Bartók (in The Bartok Blues), Thelonious Monk (in Cookies), and Israeli composer Sasha Argov (in 20 Years). Founded in 2001, Alon Farber Hagiga has performed at festivals including the Paris Jazz Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and Red Sea Jazz Festival, in addition to touring in China and Germany. Since the colonial period, drinks such as cachaça—distilled from sugarcane—have played a central role in national identity, serving as the base for the country's most iconic drink: long live the caipirinha! Other creations that celebrate our cultural diversity, such as Rabo de Galo, a recipe linked to Italian immigration, and the youthful Macunaíma, created at the famous São Paulo bar Boca de Ouro, illustrate the creative power and rich flavors of our Brazil. Inspired by this story of flavors, we invite our friend Beto Galetto, cocktail alchemist, to share the secrets behind delicious classic and Brazilian cocktails, such as the Macunaíma, Rabo de Galo, and Caju Amigo. A hands-on class with tastings, along with tips on preparing syrups, infusions, ingredients, and an overall guide with everything you need to know to impress with your home cocktail making. Get ready and come (but please take an Uber or a ride!). Snacks will be served during the event so no one leaves hungry!\nMeet Beto Galetto:\nA marketing professional by training, Beto Galetto left agency life for the hospitality world in 2011, when he moved to Vancouver, Canada, where he worked as a sous chef at one of the city’s best burger joints. Back in Brazil in 2013, he began focusing on projects that also warmed his heart. That’s when he created Burger101, a traveling project where he shared the main secrets to making a great hamburger during relaxed gatherings filled with beer and music, including editions in Rio de Janeiro, as well as working in catering and events. Since then, he gradually transitioned into the world of mixology, working at venues such as Vasco da Gama, 1020, and Estreito da Chosen, before opening Barzito in 2018. Outside the bar, he currently works with courses, events, and consulting for places like Agulha, Brizza, Tú Bar, Niko Ba, Brut & Rosé, and Rancho 141, as well as his own bottled cocktail brand.\nStill have questions? We will explore the main themes that run through the Argentine writer's work, such as memory, history, duels, and gauchismo, as well as understand how writing and reading are articulated in a unique narrative technique, as noted by figures such as Ricardo Piglia and Italo Calvino. Based on the idea of the 'cunning narrator,' the sessions propose careful and collective readings of the texts, seeking to identify the paths and traps that Borges constructs to challenge the reader. Music, as a universal language, has the power to evoke feelings, connect people, and express what often cannot be put into words. Its fundamental elements—melody, rhythm, and harmony—either together or in isolation, permeate all forms of human communication, from the maternal womb to our final breath. Over three meetings, this course proposes a unique investigation: unveiling the mysteries of this \"art of the muses,\" exploring the delicate bridge between sound and psyche. What are the foundations and properties of musical language? Through which mysterious pathways does it not only express, but also awaken and transform our deepest emotions? How does it manifest in emotional development from the earliest stages of life? Through carefully selected content, we will discuss the expressive properties of musical scales, the secrets of harmony, and the communicative power of rhythms.\n\nProgram Overview:\n13.1 - Meeting 1: Foundations of musical language\nIntroduction to the basic elements of music—rhythm, melody, and harmony—and their expressive properties. Using sound examples, we will explore how music is structured as a sensitive and universal language.\n14.1 - Meeting 2: Music and emotion: listening, feeling, transforming\nWe will investigate how music awakens and communicates emotions. Through guided listening of selected works, we will discuss how different musical structures evoke varied sensations—from melancholy to euphoria, from rest to tension.\n15.1 - Meeting 3: Music in the formation of the mind and in human relationships\nWe conclude the course with a more psychoanalytic approach: the role of music in early attachments, affective development, and listening patterns in adult life. Practical examples will be presented showing how music can serve as therapeutic support and a form of emotional care.\n\nOpen to the general public, limited spots available.\nOrganized by: Sociedade Psicanalítica de Porto Alegre – SPPA and Instituto Ling.\nPublic school teachers may request study scholarships with an 80% discount. How are childhood and adolescence confronted by an excess of stimuli or by the precariousness of bonds? Parentality, beyond biological condition, plays a psychic function of care, transmission, and recognition. The quality of bonds formed in childhood significantly influences emotional, social, and cognitive development throughout life. Attentive parenting, whether through parents or responsible caregivers, fosters the construction of secure attachments, promoting greater self-confidence and autonomy in children. This course invites reflection on the formation of subjectivity and the current challenges faced by parents and caregivers, within a context of social and cultural transformations shaping contemporary life. Over two meetings, essential topics will be explored to understand the psychic development of children and adolescents.\nCheck the program:\n21.10 – Class 1 - Constitution of Subjectivity and Parentality\nExploration of subjectivity formation in the relationship with the other, grounded in psychoanalytic concepts by Freud, Roussillon, and Winnicott. Orides Fontela and Marcelo Ariel: she, a poet who works on essentiality through short verses that invite rereading due to their density unfolding into multiple meanings; he, a poet of radical writing, not writing to please or belong. His poetry is an experience of deviation, a crossing between the mystical and the political, between the body and the cosmos. Both materialize their poetic trajectories through an aesthetic of dissent, dislocation, and disharmony. Orides Fontela and Marcelo Ariel delve into the traps and trances between poetry and philosophy. Art-thought in their conjunctions and disjunctions.\nAbout the honorees:\nOrides Fontela (1940–1998) was a Brazilian poet whose work stands out for its conciseness, density, and formal rigor. Holding a degree in Philosophy from USP, her poetry reflects a profound existential and metaphysical reflection, marked by an essentialist and purified language that seeks to say the maximum with the minimum number of words. Her short, intense verses reveal a search for the truth of being, often crossed by painful lucidity and an aesthetic of verbal cruelty. Influenced by poets such as João Cabral de Melo Neto, Fontela built a singular poetics that avoids sentimentalism and privileges abstraction, silence, and thought as poetic material. Recognized by critics such as Antonio Candido, Davi Arrigucci Jr., and Marilena Chauí, her work remains one of the most relevant in contemporary Brazilian poetry, having received awards such as the Jabuti (1983) and the Associação Paulista de Críticos de Arte (1996).\nTHEOLOGY II – Orides Fontela\nGod existed\nor did not: the same\nscandal.\nMarcelo Ariel, born in Santos in 1968, is a poet, essayist, playwright, and performer whose work stands out for its philosophical density, experimentalism, and strong engagement with social and existential issues. His poetry is marked by a hybrid language that moves between the lyrical, the essayistic, and the dramatic, exploring themes such as silence, blackness, subjectivity, and the erasure of marginalized bodies. Ariel constructs a constellational poetics, where the poem becomes a space of multiple voices and references, dialoguing with thinkers such as Lacan, Steiner, and Bourriaud. Author of works such as Tratado dos anjos afogados (Treatise on Drowned Angels) and Ou o silêncio contínuo (Or Continuous Silence), Ariel is considered one of the most singular voices in contemporary Brazilian poetry, proposing a writing that challenges aesthetic and political boundaries.\nThe common sense\nessays\nits continuity\nwithout any interest\nin the breath\nof reality\ncondemning\nlanguage\nto be\nthe sad\naccessory\nof this\nprecarious rite\nExcerpt from the poem \"Sobre abril de 2021 com o pensamento em julho de 2040\" – Marcelo Ariel.\nAbout the Speaker:\nRonald Augusto is a poet, poetry critic, and essayist. The work explores cultural, ethnic and paleontological aspects of the region, proposing a scenic-audiovisual provocation that awakens an imagistic-sensory experience with — and from — the Kariri territory, through its narratives and stories of land, stones, fossils and human animals in “cosmovivência” with these elements.\nThe Cariri is a territory of indigenous practices, whose memories are deeply connected to stones and dinosaurs. The performance immerses itself in this universe to generate friction and open dialogues about the wear of the earth and nature’s pain — which has been shouting its limits, yet continues to be scarcely heard.\nIn this context, a duality emerges: on one side, the exploitation of nature; on the other, a community engaged in indigenous revitalization, which for years has worked toward reclaiming its original memory, demarcating its lands, and strengthening the Kariri ethnicity. This indigenous struggle commits itself to nature preservation and recognition of Kariri ancestry.\nIt was within this territory and amid these complex relations that Ytá was born. Between 2018 and 2024, the artists began living the Cariri and its multiple layers, constructing the poetic foundation of the performance, which unfolds into two versions.\nTECHNICAL INFORMATION\nResearch and creation: Barbara Kariri and Edceu Barboza\nProduction and technical operation: Otávio Temóteo\nDramaturgy: Barbara Kariri\nDramaturgist: Suzana Carneiro\nCostume and lighting design: Edceu Barboza\nScenography: Barbara Kariri, Edceu Barboza, Otávio Temóteo\nVideo recording: Sérgio Vilaça\nVideographic creation and soundtrack: Fluxo Marginal\nGraphic designer: Michel Leocaldino\nLocal production (Santana do Cariri): Adeciany Castro\nAcknowledgments: Ponto de Cultura Casa Ninho/Grupo Ninho de Teatro, Comunidade do Mororo, Danilo Pereira, Everaldo Mororo, Francisco Francieudes, Lúcia de Sousa, Pedro Lessa\nDuration: 55 minutes\nAge rating: 16 years\nMIAC - The Time of Bodies receives sponsorship from Crown Embalagens, support from Instituto Ling, and production by Canard Produções. In her new temporary home, she makes new friends and, with a sweet and playful perspective, introduces us to her new reality.\nThe performance explores cinematic theater, combining object manipulation on stage with visual effects and real video scenes. In a playful manner, it addresses delicate and globally relevant themes such as overcoming environmental disasters, exile, belonging, resilience, and redefinition.\nThe performance is intended for children aged 6 and older, accompanied by their guardians. Tickets are for both children and accompanying adults.\nDuration: 1h\nCapacity: 80 seats\nAbout the group:\nColetivo GOMPA consists of artists developing experimental projects in dramaturgy and scenic language, exploring intersections between theater, dance, music, visual arts, and audiovisual media, emphasizing the fusion of different art forms as a narrative principle. In I Who Have Never Known Men, we are presented with a story that deals, among other things, with the desire for freedom, the construction of identity, and how to cope with loss without going insane.Thirty-nine women and one girl are imprisoned in an underground cell. The world they once knew no longer exists, but this former world is unknown to the girl, who does not understand much of the older women's conversations. They are constantly watched by guards who do not speak to them, except to deliver food. These forty people spend their days not knowing whether it is night or day. One day, mysteriously, a siren sounds, the guards flee, and the gates open. At that moment, it is the girl who leads the other prisoners in their escape, only to find themselves in a hostile and unfamiliar place. Now, relying solely on each other, they must relearn how to live and face another challenge: absolute freedom.Check below all the titles featured in this special edition of the Reading Club presented by the translator of the works, Diego Grando, and secure your registration. The event will take place in person, with limited spots.*Prior reading of the titles is recommended but not mandatory to participate in the meetings. The meetings take place in person at Instituto Ling, on Saturdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.- Fees per session: R$39.60 for full price and R$19.80 for half-price tickets.*Registration fees do not include copies of the books.About the Facilitator:Diego Grando is a poet, translator, and Literature professor.
