Municipal Hospital Dr. José de Carvalho Florence provides 100% free SUS services. **History** Municipal Hospital Dr. José de Carvalho Florence began operations in 1978 with the inauguration of its Emergency Unit, then named “Dr. Carlino Rossi Emergency Unit”. Due to increasing demand and the need for continuity of care provided at the Emergency Unit, the Surgical Center was inaugurated in 1988, and in 1990 the first ward was built to support the Emergency Unit, enabling the facility’s first clinical and surgical inpatient admissions. In 1995, the hospital underwent further expansion with the construction of two additional wards and the Obstetrics Center. In 2004, another expansion added one more ward to the hospital complex. This unit was named “Dr. Campoy Clinic”. In 2005, the final surgical clinic was inaugurated, and the following year, concluding this phase of the master plan, the Outpatient Clinic was inaugurated. Also in that same year, specifically on July 25, 2006, SPDM – Paulista Association for the Development of Medicine assumed management of Municipal Hospital Dr. José de Carvalho Florence, with the objective of operating and executing the unit’s health care activities and services.
