(Institute of Retirement and Social Security for Merchants) until the merger of social security institutes, after which it came under the administration of INAMPS, providing care exclusively to social security beneficiaries. In 1988, management was transferred to the Government of the State of São Paulo as part of SUS/SP. In January 2010, SPDM – Paulista Association for the Development of Medicine, qualified as a Social Organization of Health (OSS), won the public bidding process for the management of Hospital Brigadeiro. The facility was re-inaugurated in 2010 as the first public hospital in Brazil specializing in organ transplantation. The name “Euryclides de Jesus Zerbini” honors the cardiac surgeon who performed Brazil’s first heart transplant.
