To support this mission, Syngenta’s Germplasm Development team is seeking an Associate Scientist II in Uberlândia/MG. In this role, you will support breeders in the maize inbred line and hybrid development program for southern Brazil (summer and off-season crops). **Responsibilities:** * Oversee, implement, and execute multidisciplinary processes and tasks. * Monitor planting, pollination, harvesting, drying, shelling, experimental setup, planting kit preparation, seed shipment, and receipt. * Analyze operational indicators using data analysis and internal tools to track process quality and efficiency. * Lead and propose action plans aimed at continuous process improvement, working to optimize gains, reduce losses, and increase activity productivity. * Ensure compliance with internal occupational health and safety (HSE) rules and standards, as well as the Quality Management System (QMS). * Train personnel and strengthen technical alignment among teams working internally and externally in the region. * Conduct phenotypic evaluations of maize inbred lines and hybrids, as well as lead and monitor field activities across various regions of Brazil. * Strong critical and in-depth data analysis skills (phenotypic/genotypic), including ability to discuss statistical modeling and experimental design. * Serve as a key contributor in executing strategies that enhance the effectiveness of genetic breeding programs, application and development of new technologies, genetic quality assurance, and, most importantly, monitoring of seed production field activities (nurseries). **Qualifications** * Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy Engineering or related fields; * Ph.D. in Plant Breeding / Genetic Breeding; * Advanced English proficiency; * Knowledge of quantitative genetics and molecular data analysis; * General knowledge of maize cultivation (genetics, physiology, plant pathology, management, etc.); * Knowledge of statistics and data analysis; * Ability and passion for fieldwork; * Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with people from diverse educational backgrounds and levels of specialization; * Willingness and availability to travel is essential; * Valid Brazilian driver’s license (Category B). **Desirable:** * Proficiency in R or Python programming **Additional Information** **What We Offer** * A culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion, promotes professional development, and seeks a balance between professional and personal life to support team members.
