The Impact You Will Have in This Role 3M is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Corporate Research Systems Lab (CRSL) and develop scalable data systems. As part of an agile team, you will support applications in markets such as energy, manufacturing, personal safety, transportation, electronics, and consumer goods. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will have the opportunity to design and support enterprise platforms within an Enterprise Lakehouse and Data Mesh, enabling digital and IT solutions for users worldwide: * Design and build scalable, efficient, and fault\-tolerant data operations. * Collaborate with senior technical leaders, analysts, engineers, and scientists to evolve the Lakehouse platform, implement new domains in the Data Mesh, and support data initiatives. * Implement technical architecture for accelerated solutions, including integration, modeling, governance, and data applications. * Explore and recommend new tools and technologies to optimize the data platform. * Enhance and implement best practices in data engineering and analytics engineering. * Design physical data models and mappings in collaboration with engineering teams and mesh domain teams. * Work with scientists and IT specialists to develop advanced digital solutions and drive digital transformation. * Develop and maintain scalable pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and distribution. * Guide business teams, data scientists, and consumers on data standards, pipeline development, and best practices for consumption. Your Skills and Experience To ensure your success from day one, 3M requires, at a minimum: * Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution. * Professional experience in data management, data governance, and design\/development of data warehouses\/lakehouses, with proficiency in SQL and NoSQL. * Proficiency in English. Additional qualifications that may further enhance your success in this role: * Advanced SQL, Python\/PySpark\/Scala, and machine learning libraries. * Practical experience with Python for data extraction via APIs and pipeline construction. * Experience with structured and unstructured data; experience in materials science, chemistry, or physics is a plus. * Proficiency in building pipelines for application and business process integration. * Advanced knowledge of Databricks: Delta Lake, MLflow, advanced notebooks, custom libraries, Workflows, Unity Catalog. * Experience with AWS S3, Glue, EMR, and best practices for distributed Spark systems. * Experience with streaming systems: Kinesis, Spark Streaming, Storm, Kafka. * Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases. * Advanced knowledge of data quality, validation, and security principles. * Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and API development\/usage. * Experience with data orchestration (Temporal.io, Apache Airflow). * Knowledge of data visualization (Dash, Tableau, Power BI). * Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA and Confluence. * Ability to define best practices, optimize existing solutions, and support mesh domain teams. * Experience with Large Language Model (LLM) architectures and data engineering requirements for ingestion, tokenization, and indexing. * Knowledge of RAG pipelines, vectorization, and vector databases (FAISS, OpenSearch Vector, Pinecone, pgvector). * Experience with model inference and hosting platforms (AWS Bedrock, Databricks Model Serving, SageMaker). * Understanding of security, governance, and compliance applied to data used in LLMs. * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working in matrixed teams. Work Location This position follows an on\-site model, requiring the employee to work in the Sumaré\/SP office for at least four days per week. Travel: May include up to 5% domestic\/international travel. Relocation: Not authorized.
