The resulting hospital — nicknamed “Vila Maria” — was built with expectations of high-resolution and high-performance care. This hospital was named after influential regional politician Councilor José Storopolli, whose family donated the land for its construction. However, since its inauguration in 1992 until July 1994, its Surgical Center remained inactive, as did its surgical and orthopedic wards and Intensive Care Unit.
