It was initially named Auerbach \& Werner, combining the names of its German-origin owners: engineer Paul Werner and blacksmith Ernst Auerbach. The company grew and incorporated steel into its production line, changing its name to Electro Aço Altona in 1933\. Thus, Santa Catarina’s first steel foundry—and one of Brazil’s earliest—was born. Over the past decade, it has acquired other companies to accommodate and expand its production line, as well as established overseas subsidiaries to better serve customers in high-demand commercial regions such as Europe and North America.
