Negotiate licensing and technology transfer The **Intellectual Property Director** is the executive responsible for leading the organization’s strategy for protecting, managing, and monetizing its intangible assets. In Recife, this role demands an intimate connection with the local innovation ecosystem, ensuring that patents, software, trademarks, and copyrights are shielded against infringement and leveraged as strategic assets in investment rounds and international partnerships. **Key Responsibilities** * **IP Portfolio Strategy:** Develop and execute the company’s intellectual property policy aligned with innovation and technology export objectives. * **Patent and Software Management:** Supervise filing and prosecution of patent applications and software registrations with the **INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property)**. * **Digital Asset Protection:** Implement protection strategies for algorithms, source code, and trade secrets—critical for the Porto Digital IT sector. * **Licensing and Monetization:** Negotiate licensing agreements (in-licensing and out-licensing), technology transfer agreements, and commercial exploitation arrangements. * **Monitoring and Litigation:** Lead technological surveillance to identify infringements and coordinate judicial or extrajudicial actions to enforce IP rights. * **Innovation Due Diligence:** Conduct IP audits during mergers, acquisitions, or strategic partnerships to assess risks and asset value. * **Innovation Culture:** Train engineering and design teams on what is protectable, preventing premature disclosure of inventions. **Requirements and Qualifications** * **Experience:** Minimum of 10 years in intellectual property, with a proven track record of leadership in specialized law firms or legal/technology departments of large corporations. * **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in Law or Engineering. Advanced specialization or master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law or Innovation Management is desirable. * **Technical Knowledge:** * Proficiency in the **Industrial Property Law (Law No. 9,279/96)** and the **Software Law (Law No. 9,609/98)**. * Familiarity with international treaties (Patent Cooperation Treaty — PCT and Madrid Protocol). * Fluent English (mandatory for international procedures and global partnerships). * **Soft Skills:** * Diplomatic profile for contract negotiations. * Business-oriented mindset to transform legal protections into financial assets. * Strong ties to Pernambuco’s science and technology ecosystem.
