As a **Senior** **Data Scientist Engineer** at Mercado Livre, you will design and scale innovative and secure systems that solve real-world, high-impact problems. You will work in a dynamic environment powered by cutting-edge technology, applying engineering best practices, proprietary AI models, and continuous learning — all aimed at democratizing e-commerce and financial services across Latin America. Imagine yourself leading challenging, dynamic, and innovative projects and being **responsible for:** * Collaborating with the team to develop mathematical models, (meta)heuristics, approximate algorithms, and novel approaches to tackle current and future optimization challenges at Mercado Envios — with special focus on Inventory Optimization (e.g., inventory placement, allocation across distribution centers, and replenishment planning). * Developing and applying machine learning models to support inventory and logistics decisions — such as forecasting, reinforcement learning, scoring models, and clustering/segmentation. * Deeply engaging with technical literature (scientific papers and books) to help position Mercado Livre as a regional leader in both Operations Research & Optimization and Applied Machine Learning for inventory and distribution problems. You will directly collaborate with business, product, and technology leadership to organize projects, gather requirements, identify risks, allocate team resources, analyze KPIs, and perform other role-specific activities — including identifying opportunities where ML and Optimization can be combined to generate even greater business and customer impact. * Partnering with business and product teams to formulate business problems and propose and build analytical solutions aligned with user needs and Mercado Livre’s goals. * Supporting client areas in analyzing and interpreting model outputs, translating technical results into clear, actionable recommendations. * Engaging users with a focus on operational efficiency, promoting an analytical culture, and supporting data-driven decision-making — demonstrating how predictive (ML) and prescriptive (optimization) models can be integrated into daily operations. **What We’re Looking For:** * Strong business acumen and exceptional ability to solve complex problems — pragmatically connecting business objectives, operational constraints, and analytical solutions. * Outstanding communication skills — both verbal and written — actively participating in meetings, explaining technical solutions to diverse audiences, and influencing decisions based on data. * Solid expertise in optimization techniques — such as Linear Programming, Mixed-Integer Programming, heuristics, and metaheuristics — and prior experience with Machine Learning techniques (e.g., supervised models, forecasting, clustering, or scoring models). * Proven experience in modeling and solving planning, scheduling, routing, location, or other practical applications of Operations Research, Optimization, and Machine Learning. * Advanced knowledge of data structures and software design, plus proficiency in at least one programming language such as C/C\+\+ or Python. **Are You Excited to Leave Your Mark on Latin American Technology?** Apply now and join our mission!
