The department conducts research and teaching in the fields of construction processes, building technology, geotechnics, geomatics, marine civil engineering, water and wastewater engineering, hydraulic engineering, roads, railways, and transport. Teaching is offered at both bachelor’s and master’s levels. We also offer several national and international study programs, and approximately 130 candidates are enrolled in the department’s PhD program. This position is part of the technical staff team, which consists of 14 employees. We are a diverse group that collaborates closely across disciplines. The main responsibilities of this position will involve laboratory work in the field of hydraulic engineering (HE), including planning, constructing, and conducting projects in consultation with academic staff and subject teachers. Additional duties may include work in the department’s shared workshops and other laboratories involved in producing laboratory and testing equipment. You will report to the laboratory manager, and your workplace will be the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Campus Gløshaugen in Trondheim. Key responsibilities Planning and conducting model and laboratory experiments Co-responsibility for daily operation of the hydraulic laboratory, including arranging and training on equipment use and implementing HSE routines Supervising students during laboratory work Assisting subject teachers during laboratory courses Performing maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments Assisting in project execution Qualification requirements Relevant university or college education equivalent to at least a bachelor’s degree, e.g., in building technology, hydraulic engineering, or mechanical engineering. Relevant practical competence may compensate for formal educational requirements. Relevant practical work experience in technical, mechanical, and/or construction-related fields Practical experience using relevant equipment/tools for constructing experimental rigs Good oral and written communication skills in Norwegian and English Advantageous qualifications Experience in student supervision Practical experience with relevant instrumentation Relevant certifications, e.g., hot work course, forklift license, or driver’s license class B Personal qualities Service-oriented, flexible, and solution-focused Good collaboration and communication skills Independent and structured Contributing to a positive work environment Interest in hands-on work Strong execution capability and ability to prioritize during busy periods In assessing the most qualified candidate, emphasis will be placed on education, experience, personal suitability, and motivation for the position. Salary and terms For the position of section engineer (code 1085), the standard salary range is gross NOK 620,000–700,000 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. Employment will be conducted in accordance with the Public Employees Act and legislation regulating export of knowledge, technology, and services.
