Junior Coordinator, Program Implementation
Position Overview: **ABOUT RARE** Rare drives positive change for both people and nature. The Program Coordinator plays a role in collaborating with various teams globally and in Brazil, significantly contributing to the growth of Rare Brasil. **POSITION OVERVIEW** Reporting to the Senior Manager of Program Implementation, the Junior Program Coordinator will oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of our conservation initiatives along the coast of Amapá. This role requires strong leadership, project management and communication skills, along with a deep commitment to both people and conservation efforts. **ABOUT THE POSITION** The selected candidate will work on community engagement and strengthening local organizations in coastal communities of Amapá, preferably residing in the municipalities of Calçoene or Macapá. This work is part of Rare’s program in Brazil, which aims to support fishing communities in sustainable management, strengthen community leaders, and prepare territories for potential establishment of new Conservation Units. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS** * Develop community engagement activities with fishers, local leaders, and associations; * Support capacity-building and continuous training processes within communities; * Strengthen community movements and local social organizations; * Contribute to the implementation of Rare Brazil’s program activities; * Support community and institutional coordination aimed at creating new Conservation Units in the state; * Assist in logistics for events within and outside communities; * Support mobilization for behavior change campaigns promoted by Rare Brasil; * Assist in organizing program events, including community mobilization, facilitation of activities, report writing, and production support; * Conduct field visits, including overland travel and boat trips. **EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION** * Bachelor’s degree in an environmental field or equivalent (e.g., fisheries engineering, biology, ecology, oceanography); * Valid driver’s license (category B); * Fluency in Portuguese, spoken and written; * Excellent communication skills and ability to work in teams, with sensitivity to diversity and intercultural contexts; * Proficiency in software tools, including MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); * Prior experience in grassroots community work, socio-environmental agenda, or artisanal fishing context is essential; * Skills in group facilitation, communication, and dialogue mediation; * Availability for frequent travel (land and riverine/maritime); * Commitment to principles of social participation, equity, and sustainability; * Knowledge of community natural resource management and/or environmental public policies (SNUC, RESEX, protected areas) is desirable. **LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES** * Problem solving and decision making; * Ability to influence and inspire others; * Emotional intelligence and self-awareness; * Effective communication; * Valuing diversity; * Ease in building relationships. **WORK ENVIRONMENT** This position operates in a professional office environment, using standard office equipment such as computers and mobile phones. It is a hybrid position, partially based in the office and partially remote. **PHYSICAL DEMANDS** While predominantly sedentary, occasional light physical tasks such as lifting items and moving office equipment may be required. During field travel, be prepared for prolonged travel, boat rides, and walking. **POSITION TYPE AND WORK HOURS** This is a full-time position, with typical business days from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. However, occasional overtime may be required.
